19-Year-Old Arrested in Katsina Over Alleged Toy-Gun Robbery Attempt

Police recover toy pistol as suspect allegedly chases victim in Kofar Sauri

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, identified as Aliyu Sani, over an alleged attempted armed robbery and impersonation in Katsina metropolis.

The suspect was apprehended on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after reportedly chasing an unidentified person while brandishing what appeared to be a pistol in an attempt to dispossess the victim of his belongings.

According to the police, the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m., when residents alerted security personnel to the suspicious movement of the suspect.

Acting swiftly, police operatives, working alongside members of the local vigilante group, moved to the area and arrested Sani about an hour later at Kofar Sauri, Katsina.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a black toy pistol, which police said was allegedly used during the incident.

The command said the suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation during preliminary interrogation regarding how he came into possession of the toy weapon.

He remains in police custody as investigators continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery attempt and impersonation.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended residents and members of the local vigilante group for their prompt response and cooperation with the police.

Fage urged residents across the state to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.

He stressed that sustained cooperation between communities and security personnel remains critical to preventing crime and strengthening public safety across Katsina State.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring that residents can go about their daily activities without fear.
