Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have inflicted heavy losses on Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters after successfully repelling a coordinated midnight attack on the Headquarters of 27 Brigade in Buni Gari, Yobe State.
The failed assault occurred in the early hours of Thursday when the terrorists reportedly launched simultaneous attacks from multiple directions targeting the military formation and a nearby checkpoint.
According to the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, the terrorists stormed the area at about 2:00 a.m. but met fierce resistance from troops who stood their ground and responded with overwhelming firepower.
The intense gun battle forced the attackers to retreat in disarray after suffering significant casualties.
Lt.-Col. Uba disclosed that several terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while many others escaped with gunshot wounds.
He added that follow-up exploitation operations conducted by troops led to the recovery of terrorist corpses and weapons abandoned in surrounding bushes and along the insurgents’ withdrawal routes.
Military authorities described the operation as another major setback for ISWAP elements operating in the North-East, reaffirming the resolve of troops to sustain offensive operations against terrorist enclaves across the region.
