Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have foiled a kidnapping operation in Benue State, rescuing three victims after security forces launched a swift pursuit of suspected kidnappers along the Ogobia–Otukpo road.

The operation, which took place at about 8 a.m. on August 14, 2026, involved troops of Sector 1 deployed at Forward Operating Base Otukpo, working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police.

Military sources said the troops were alerted to an ongoing kidnapping incident in the area and quickly moved to intercept the attackers.

On reaching the scene, the troops found a bus reportedly abandoned by the kidnappers, with the passengers nowhere to be found. Rather than withdraw, the troops immediately mounted a pursuit of the fleeing criminals.

The pressure from the security forces reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon three of their captives as they fled the area.

The victims were swiftly recovered and taken to safety, while the driver of the vehicle was found with a gunshot injury sustained during the attack.

The rescued victims have since been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further assistance and investigation.

Meanwhile, troops and other security personnel have continued efforts to track down the fleeing kidnappers and identify members of the criminal gang involved in the operation.

The latest rescue highlights the increasing focus of security forces on rapid response patrols along vulnerable routes in Benue, particularly areas used by criminals to target commuters and residents.

Authorities have also intensified security operations across the state as efforts continue to prevent further attacks and protect communities and road users from kidnappers and other criminal elements.
