….Midnight Raid Cripples Suspected Terrorist Base in Ukum
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have delivered a fresh blow to suspected terrorists operating in Benue State, smashing a hideout in the Ukum axis and recovering a Dane gun during a daring midnight operation.
The operation, conducted at about 2 a.m. on August 14, saw troops of Sector 1 move into areas identified as potential criminal strongholds around Mianaka, Mbayenge and Kado in Ukum Local Government Area.
Military sources said the troops were conducting a fighting patrol when they descended on the suspected terrorist enclave, disrupting what was believed to be a hideout used by armed elements.
A Dane gun and other sundry items were recovered from the location during the operation.
Following the discovery, troops destroyed the suspected hideout and associated structures, effectively denying the armed group a potential base from which to operate against surrounding communities.
The operation underscores the military’s growing focus on dismantling criminal infrastructure rather than waiting for attacks to occur.
By targeting hideouts and camps in remote locations, security forces are seeking to cut off the ability of armed groups to regroup, store weapons and use secluded areas as launching points for attacks.
The latest clearance operation is part of sustained efforts by OPWS to tighten security across Benue and prevent criminal elements from establishing safe havens within vulnerable communities.
Troops are expected to maintain pressure through continued fighting patrols and clearance operations as security forces work to restore stability and reassure residents across the affected areas.
