Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have arrested a suspected criminal accused of robbing three herders who reportedly offered him shelter overnight in Ungwan Boka Hills, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspect was apprehended around 7:00 a.m. on August 20, 2026, by troops stationed at a Sector Operational Patrol Post in the area.
According to security sources, the suspect had approached the three herders and sought refuge with them at the remote location. The herders reportedly agreed to accommodate him for the night.
However, the situation allegedly took a dramatic turn the following morning when the suspect was accused of robbing his hosts before troops moved in and arrested him.
He is currently being held in military custody as investigators work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery and determine whether he has any connection to other criminal incidents reported within the area.
The arrest comes amid continuing security concerns across parts of the Riyom axis, where difficult terrain and isolated settlements can create challenges for security operations and provide hiding opportunities for criminal elements.
Troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE have continued patrols, surveillance and other security operations across vulnerable communities in Plateau State, with a focus on protecting residents and pastoral communities while disrupting criminal activities.
Security authorities are expected to strengthen intelligence gathering and deepen cooperation with local communities to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of operating within the area.
