Troops of the 17 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA have neutralized three suspected terrorists during a well-coordinated ambush operation along the Turare–Kitibawa–Kuka–Mai Damusa Road in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation, carried out at about 9:40 p.m. on May 9, 2026, followed sustained military offensives targeting criminal elements operating around the Matazu general area.
Security sources disclosed that the fleeing terrorists unknowingly ran into an ambush strategically laid by troops while attempting to escape mounting military pressure in the area.
A fierce exchange reportedly ensued, leading to the killing of three terrorists, while others escaped with possible gunshot wounds into nearby bushes.
Troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms, and the sum of ₦3,500 from the scene of the operation.
Military authorities described the operation as another significant breakthrough in ongoing counter-terrorism campaigns aimed at dismantling armed groups terrorizing communities across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
Security officials said the latest success reflects the growing effectiveness of coordinated offensives and intelligence-driven operations being conducted by troops against terrorists and bandits operating within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
Residents of communities around Dutsin-Ma and Matazu have continued to express relief over intensified military operations targeting criminal hideouts and movement corridors used by armed groups.
Authorities, however, urged members of the public to sustain cooperation with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of supporting ongoing operations.
Military sources noted that troops remain on high alert and have intensified patrols, ambushes, and surveillance operations across vulnerable areas to deny terrorists freedom of movement.
The successful ambush has also attracted commendation for troops of the 17 Brigade, whose sustained operational pressure continues to record notable gains in the fight against terrorism and insecurity in Katsina State.
Security analysts believe the increased deployment of offensive tactics, including ambushes and coordinated raids, is gradually weakening terrorist networks and disrupting their activities across the region.
