Borno State Government

By Abdullahi Inuwa

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have recovered a locally made rifle after suspected terrorists fled during a military offensive in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The encounter occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on August 16, 2026, when troops of Sector 2, deployed in Kukawa, came in contact with the suspected terrorists on the outskirts of Kyaram Village.

A military security source said the armed men took to their heels after sighting the advancing troops, triggering a pursuit by the soldiers.

During the chase, the fleeing terrorists abandoned a locally made rifle, which was subsequently recovered by the troops.

No casualty was recorded on the side of the troops during the encounter.

The recovered weapon has since been secured in military custody as security forces intensify operations to track down criminal elements operating across the area.

The latest operation is part of the ongoing offensive by Operation Enduring Peace to deny terrorists and other criminal groups freedom of movement while strengthening security around communities in Plateau State.
