Sultan Urges Nigerians to Unite, Says Peace Key to National Development

Borno State Government

ABUJA — The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigerians across religious, ethnic and regional divides to embrace peace, unity and mutual understanding, stressing that national cohesion is critical to overcoming the country’s numerous challenges.

The Sultan made the call while speaking at an international conference on National Security for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development held in Abuja.

The conference was organised by the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) in collaboration with the Muslim League of Nigeria.

Sultan Abubakar said Nigeria could only achieve sustainable development when its citizens recognised their shared responsibilities and worked together for the common good.

He urged Nigerians to shun division, intolerance and actions capable of threatening the peace and stability of the country, noting that mutual understanding remained vital to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

According to him, religious and moral values should serve as a foundation for promoting peaceful coexistence and encouraging citizens to support one another, particularly during difficult times.

The Sultan further emphasised the importance of piety, stressing that in the sight of God, the best among mankind is the person who is righteous and conscious of his responsibilities.

He therefore called on Nigerians to translate their faith into positive actions by helping others, promoting justice and strengthening the bonds of unity across communities.

He maintained that a peaceful and united Nigeria would be better positioned to confront insecurity, economic hardship and other challenges confronting the nation.

The Sultan’s message comes amid growing calls from leaders and stakeholders for greater cooperation among Nigerians as the country seeks sustainable solutions to its security and socio-economic challenges.

He urged citizens to place the interests of the nation above sectional considerations and work collectively towards building a peaceful, stable and prosperous Nigeria.
