…..Coalition Demands Immediate Removal, Accuses Director of Weak Mobilisation, Insubordination

A fresh power struggle appears to be brewing within the political support structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, following a demand by a coalition of APC support groups for the immediate removal of the state director of the City Boy Movement (CBM), Mas’udu Musa Bashar.
The coalition, which represents APC support groups across the state’s 23 local government areas, made the demand on Thursday in Sokoto, accusing the CBM leadership in the state of failing to provide the grassroots mobilisation needed to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At a press conference, the coalition leader, Jamilu Suleiman, declared the group’s continued loyalty to the APC and pledged to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
But while reaffirming its commitment to the party, the coalition took a swipe at the current leadership of the City Boy Movement, alleging that the organisation had failed to establish a strong and functional presence in Sokoto.
Suleiman alleged that the state chapter was being hampered by what he described as ineffective leadership, poor youth engagement and weak grassroots mobilisation.
The coalition cited 10 grounds in its call for Bashar’s replacement, with alleged insubordination to party leadership, failure to mobilise at the grassroots, inadequate youth involvement, disregard for existing party structures and weak visibility across the state among its major concerns.
The group warned that allowing what it described as an ineffective structure to continue could undermine efforts to build a formidable APC campaign network ahead of 2027.
“We demand that the national leadership work with concerned youth leaders and stakeholders to appoint a committed and loyal party personality to take charge of the State CBM,” Suleiman said.
He added that such a leader should be supported by credible executives capable of running the movement effectively and expanding its reach across Sokoto.
The coalition insisted that its demand was aimed at strengthening—not weakening—the APC, arguing that support groups must have functional structures if they are to contribute meaningfully to the party’s electoral fortunes.
The group subsequently reaffirmed its support for Governor Ahmed Aliyu and former Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, promising to work with other party stakeholders towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 elections.
The development adds another layer to the growing political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 polls, as party loyalists, support groups and youth organisations increasingly seek to consolidate their structures and influence at the grassroots.
With representatives of APC support groups from all 23 local government areas present at the briefing, the demand is expected to attract attention within the party and the leadership of the City Boy Movement.
However, Bashar was not available to respond to the allegations. Repeated attempts to contact him were unsuccessful as his telephone was reportedly switched off.
Until he responds, the allegations remain the claims of the coalition.
