KATSINA — A planned attack by armed bandits on communities in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State has been foiled by security operatives, with one suspected bandit reportedly neutralised during a gun battle.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress alert around 6:00 p.m. that suspected bandits on motorcycles were heading towards Dansarai and Kamfani communities.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a team of police operatives, supported by members of the Vigilance and Community Response Unit (VCRU), to intercept the attackers.
The security team strategically positioned itself along routes believed to be used by the criminals before making contact with the group.
A fierce exchange of gunfire reportedly followed as the operatives engaged the suspected bandits. Confronted by the superior tactics and firepower of the security personnel, the attackers abandoned their advance and fled into the surrounding area.
A subsequent search of the scene led to the recovery of the body of one suspected armed bandit believed to have been neutralised during the encounter.
The police said operations have continued in the area as efforts intensify to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the group.
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the officers and VCRU personnel for their courage, professionalism and prompt response to the distress call.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s determination to prevent criminal elements from threatening the lives and property of residents across Katsina State.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible and timely information on suspicious movements and activities, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against banditry.
The command assured residents that security personnel would continue to sustain operations aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and denying criminals the opportunity to carry out attacks.
