A political earthquake has struck Yobe State as no fewer than 293 groups of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Potiskum Local Government Area have defected en masse to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move that has reshaped the local political landscape.

The sweeping defection, led by the PDP Chairman in Potiskum, Alhaji Audu Hamisu, popularly known as “Soja Boy,” marks one of the largest political crossovers witnessed in the area in recent times.

The defectors, drawn from key grassroots blocs including Tora-Bora, Texaco, Sokol-Jigawa, Dorawa, Kabul, Kamfala, Old Kwata, Rasha and Big Soja groups, were formally received by the APC leadership amid jubilation.

Welcoming the new entrants, Yobe APC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, described the party as a broad, inclusive platform attracting support across all levels.

He credited the growing momentum to the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Mai Mala Buni, urging the defectors to align fully with the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The APC offers equal opportunity for all. Integrate quickly and work towards victory,” Gadaka charged.

Explaining the dramatic shift, Hamisu said the decision followed wide consultations and a critical review of governance at both state and federal levels, citing improved security, economic direction, and grassroots development as driving factors.

“After careful assessment, we are convinced our political future lies with the APC,” he declared.

The development is expected to significantly boost APC’s dominance in Potiskum, while dealing a major blow to the PDP’s grassroots structure in the area.
