Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave—his first since assuming office in May 2023—after receiving approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with a pledge to return refreshed and better equipped to serve the nation.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Vice President on Thursday, the leave, which began on August 6, will be devoted to study, reflection and intellectual renewal aimed at strengthening Shettima’s capacity for national service.
The statement said the break would allow the Vice President to review the Tinubu administration’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office, Shettima has played a central role in coordinating key government initiatives spanning economic development, food security, humanitarian interventions, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He has also chaired meetings of the National Economic Council (NEC), where state governors, the Central Bank Governor and other senior government officials deliberate on policies affecting Nigeria’s economy and citizens’ welfare.
Beyond domestic responsibilities, Shettima has represented President Tinubu at several regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in investment, economic integration, peace and security, climate action and sustainable development.
The statement reaffirmed the Vice President’s commitment to loyalty, duty and public service, noting that he remains fully dedicated to supporting President Tinubu’s vision of building a safer, more prosperous and productive Nigeria.
Shettima is expected to resume his official duties at the end of the two-week leave with what the Presidency described as “renewed energy and dedication” to advancing the administration’s agenda.
