Vice President Kashim Shettima has led a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Kebbi State, delivering a message of condolence from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over a string of tragic events rocking the state.
The delegation commiserated with the government and people of Kebbi following the death of the State Assembly Speaker, Muhammad Usman Zuru, as well as the recent deadly bandit attacks in Shanga Local Government Area that claimed lives, including eleven soldiers.
Shettima described the late Speaker’s death as a huge blow to Kebbi State, Nigeria’s democracy, and the nation at large, praying for his eternal rest and strength for the bereaved family.
He also lamented the devastation in communities such as Gebe, Kalkami, Tungar Rimi, and Awaye, assuring that the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers would not be in vain.
The Vice President revealed that President Tinubu directed him to visit alongside Zubaida Umar to ensure urgent support and relief for displaced victims.
Commending the military, Shettima urged continued resilience, while pledging federal backing to security forces in the fight against banditry.
He further lauded Governor Nasir Idris for strides in infrastructure, education, and inclusive governance in the state.
Receiving the delegation, the Emir of Zuru, Muhammad Sanusi Mikaili Gomo III, expressed gratitude for the show of concern and solidarity.
Governor Idris, in his response, thanked President Tinubu for the gesture, noting that the state has suffered multiple losses in recent weeks, including the Speaker and security personnel.
He disclosed that the government has set up a committee with ₦100 million to resettle displaced persons, alongside ₦60 million support for families of fallen soldiers.
The visit underscores growing federal attention to security and humanitarian challenges in Kebbi State.
