WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nigeria has stepped up its security diplomacy with the United States as National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, led a high-powered delegation of senior security and government officials to a high-level Nigeria–US Joint Working Group meeting in Washington, D.C.
The strategic meeting is focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism and other security threats confronting both countries.
The talks provide an opportunity for Nigeria and the United States to review progress made in existing security partnerships, assess emerging threats and identify fresh areas for deeper collaboration.
Among the senior Nigerian officials participating in the engagement is the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, alongside other key security and government representatives.
The Washington meeting underscores the growing importance of Nigeria–US cooperation in tackling terrorism, violent extremism and transnational security challenges.
Discussions are expected to centre on enhancing intelligence sharing, operational coordination, capacity building and other mechanisms aimed at improving Nigeria’s ability to respond effectively to evolving security threats.
The engagement also comes as Nigeria continues to intensify efforts to strengthen its security architecture and build stronger international partnerships in the battle against terrorism and organised criminal networks.
With Ribadu leading the Nigerian delegation, the Joint Working Group is expected to provide a platform for both countries to consolidate existing gains while developing new strategies for a stronger and more effective security partnership.
The high-level Washington engagement further signals Nigeria’s determination to leverage international cooperation and expertise in its ongoing quest to achieve sustainable national security.
