UYO — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered a stolen Ford Jeep and arrested a suspected receiver following a technology-driven investigation that led detectives from Uyo to Delta State.
The breakthrough came after the Command received a report on August 13, 2026, concerning the theft of the vehicle at Akpasak Estate, Uyo.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, ordered the relevant operational and investigative units to immediately launch a search for the missing vehicle and track down those behind the theft.
Detectives subsequently deployed intelligence-led and technology-based investigative methods to trace the vehicle’s movement.
After days of sustained investigation, the search eventually led police operatives to Delta State on August 27, where the stolen Ford Jeep was located.
A man identified as Bright Okon, a personnel of a private security company, was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of the vehicle.
The recovered vehicle was taken back to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, where investigators have commenced further inquiries into how it was stolen, transported out of the state and eventually came into the suspect’s possession.
Police authorities said the investigation would not end with the recovery of the vehicle and arrest of one suspect, as efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals who may be linked to the alleged vehicle theft and trafficking network.
The Commissioner of Police warned individuals involved in stealing, receiving, concealing or transporting stolen vehicles that the Command would continue to pursue them regardless of where they flee or attempt to hide.
CP Azare also urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly provide the police with useful information about suspicious movements, stolen vehicles and other criminal activities.
The Command said information supplied by residents could play a crucial role in disrupting criminal networks and recovering stolen property.
