MAFA, Borno — A suspected member of a terrorist family has surrendered to Nigerian Army troops in Borno State, arriving with her two young children after reportedly fleeing a terrorist hideout amid violent clashes between rival factions.
The woman, identified as 45-year-old Mrs Yaganama Abdul, surrendered to troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion in Mafa Local Government Area at about 4:00 p.m. on August 28.
She was accompanied by her children, Yafatai Abdul, 9, and four-year-old Guja Abdul, according to security sources.
Preliminary questioning indicated that the family escaped from the Burari terrorist enclave following intense fighting between rival terrorist groups operating in the area.
Following their surrender, troops took the three into custody for security screening, profiling and documentation as part of ongoing intelligence-gathering efforts.
Security authorities are expected to draw useful information from the development, particularly regarding the reported rivalry and clashes within the terrorist enclave. Details obtained from the escapees could provide fresh insight into the group’s activities, movements and internal structure.
The surrender comes as military forces continue sustained operations against terrorist networks across the North-East, combining ground operations with intelligence-led efforts to weaken insurgent groups and secure vulnerable communities.
