The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted a midnight cattle rustling operation in Bagwayawa Village, Kafur Local Government Area, recovering 10 stolen cows after a fierce gun battle with suspected armed bandits.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when the police received a distress call at about 1:15 a.m. reporting that heavily armed bandits had invaded the community and made away with several cattle.
Responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kafur deployed a team of operatives who strategically blocked the suspects’ escape routes and confronted them in a gun duel.
According to the command, the bandits were forced to flee into a nearby forest after being overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the police, abandoning the rustled livestock. The recovered 10 cows are being processed for return to their rightful owners.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, assuring residents that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and prompt response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain aggressive operations against banditry and other violent crimes across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance the fight against criminal elements.
