Troops of Operation Hadin Kai foiled a Boko Haram ambush in northeastern Borno State on Monday and dismantled several insurgent hideouts during follow-up operations, the military has said.
In a statement issued on September 7, 2026, the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI said soldiers from the 27 Task Force Brigade under Sector 2 encountered suspected terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai road in Biu Local Government Area while on routine patrol.
According to the military, troops came under attack but responded swiftly, forcing the insurgents to flee in disarray.
Reinforcements were later deployed to secure the area. During a clearance operation, soldiers uncovered and destroyed multiple makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout points.
Items recovered from the sites included one motorcycle, several bicycles, a rifle magazine, assorted ammunition, and rocket-propelled grenade bombs.
“No troops were killed in the encounter,” the statement said. “However, some military vehicles sustained damage. Despite this, the troops remained operational and completed the mission successfully.”
The military described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement, disrupt their logistics, and protect civilian communities across the North East.
“The fighting spirit of Operation HADIN KAI troops remains high. We will continue aggressive patrols and coordinated operations to safeguard lives and property,” the statement added.
Authorities noted that while the general security situation in the area remains calm, it is still unpredictable due to the activities of insurgents.
The military called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
“Timely information from the public is critical to our efforts to detect, disrupt and neutralize terrorist threats in the theatre,” said Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI.
The latest operation comes as security forces intensify patrols ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a focus on securing major highways and rural communities in Borno and neighboring states.
