Poland Snatch Late Draw as Super Eagles Denied Victory in Warsaw Thriller

Borno State Government

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were left heartbroken in Warsaw on Tuesday night after surrendering a late lead to draw 2-2 with Poland in a pulsating international friendly.

Fresh from their successful outing at the 2026 Unity Cup, Eric Chelle’s men appeared destined for another morale-boosting victory before a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Przemyslaw Wisniewski rescued the hosts at the death.

Nigeria started brightly and matched their European opponents stride for stride in a fiercely contested encounter, displaying the confidence and attacking flair that powered their recent success.

The Super Eagles looked to have done enough to secure victory after twice finding the back of the net and frustrating Poland for much of the contest.

However, just as the visitors began to celebrate what would have been an impressive away result, Wisniewski unleashed a thunderous strike in added time that flew past the Nigerian goalkeeper and sent the home crowd into celebration.

The late setback denied Nigeria a second consecutive victory under Chelle and extended Poland’s resistance in front of their home supporters.

Despite the disappointing finish, the Super Eagles produced several encouraging performances, with their attacking play and resilience offering positive signs ahead of future competitive fixtures.

The match also provided Chelle another opportunity to assess his squad and experiment with combinations as Nigeria continues preparations for upcoming international assignments.

For Poland, the draw felt like a victory after spending much of the game chasing the result, while Nigeria will rue the missed opportunity to cap an impressive European trip with another win.

Although the Super Eagles were denied at the last moment, their spirited display in Warsaw reinforced growing optimism that the team is building momentum following its Unity Cup triumph.

The dramatic contest ended with honours even, but it was Poland’s stoppage-time heroics that stole the headlines on a night of high drama in the Polish capital.
