The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to go ahead with its planned presidential candidate ratification ceremony, insisting it will resist any attempt to intimidate or disrupt its political activities.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had threatened to shut down A Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja, over its decision to host the party’s event.
The party said it had already made full payment for the venue and duly notified all relevant security agencies ahead of the scheduled programme.
According to the statement, the PDP has also instructed its lawyers to formally remind the management of the event centre of the agreement and legal obligations surrounding the booking.
The party maintained that its special convention to ratify the presidential candidature of former President Goodluck Jonathan will hold as planned on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at A Class Event Centre by 10 a.m.
Describing any attempt to halt the event as unconstitutional, the PDP insisted that Nigeria remains a democratic state governed by law, adding that no public office holder has the authority to dictate political gatherings or approved venues.
It further argued that such actions, if true, amount to an abuse of power incompatible with democratic norms.
The opposition party called on its leaders, NEC members and stakeholders from across the country to attend the event as scheduled, reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy and political participation.
