Residents of Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State were thrown into panic on Saturday night after suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists attacked the community, setting two schools ablaze and forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes.
The attack, which reportedly started around 7 p.m., targeted the village’s primary school and day secondary school. Both buildings were engulfed in flames as terrified residents abandoned their homes in search of safety.
Witnesses said the sudden assault caught many residents off guard, triggering confusion and fear across the community. Families reportedly fled into surrounding bushes to escape the advancing insurgents.
A security operative from Kautikari, currently based in Maiduguri, confirmed the incident, describing the situation as alarming.
“Yes, I can confirm that our village, Kautikari in Chibok Local Government Area, is under Boko Haram attack,” he said.
“Our people are scampering for safety, even as two schools— the primary and day secondary school—are on fire.”
Kautikari, one of the communities repeatedly targeted by insurgents over the years, has remained vulnerable to attacks despite ongoing military operations in the region. The latest incident has renewed concerns over the security of rural communities and educational facilities in Borno State.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement on casualties, while residents continued to seek refuge amid fears of further attacks. Security forces were reportedly mobilising to respond to the situation.
