The Police Command deployed for the 2026 Osun State governorship election has disclosed that about 100 persons suspected of planning to disrupt the poll are currently in custody.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Mr Erale Samuel Etaifo, said the suspects were allegedly brought into Osun from neighbouring Ondo and Ekiti states as part of plans to cause trouble during the electoral process.

Etaifo, who disclosed this while giving an update on the security situation, said the police had been monitoring the movement of suspected troublemakers for about a month ahead of the election.

According to him, the security agencies moved proactively to prevent the suspects from executing their alleged plans.

“We have about 100 people in custody who have come from neighbouring states of Ondo and Ekiti to disrupt this election for the past one month,” the police commissioner said.

Despite the concerns raised ahead of the poll, Etaifo said the election day had so far remained relatively calm from the standpoint of electoral violence.

He stressed that no arrest had been made on Saturday in connection with electoral violence as of the time of the briefing.

The police boss assured residents, voters and other stakeholders that security agencies remained on high alert across the state to safeguard the electoral process and prevent attempts to undermine the exercise.

The development highlights the heightened security preparations surrounding the Osun election, with authorities maintaining surveillance to ensure that voters can exercise their franchise without intimidation or violence.

Security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations across the state as the authorities seek to keep the election peaceful and orderly.
