OSOGBO — Governor Ademola Adeleke has emerged winner of the Osun State governorship election after securing the highest number of votes in a keenly contested poll.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord platform, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which recorded 444,815 votes.
The result places Adeleke ahead by 66,252 votes, giving the incumbent a decisive victory in the keenly watched election.
The outcome is expected to trigger celebrations among Adeleke’s supporters across the state, while attention will now shift to the final declaration and certification of the result by the electoral authorities.
The election had attracted widespread attention, with voters turning out across the state to decide who would lead Osun for the next term.
With the latest figures, Adeleke has secured a fresh mandate, while the APC faces the task of regrouping following its defeat at the polls.
