Twenty officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been suspended in connection with the recent incident in Niger State that resulted in the deaths of suspected illegal miners in the Corps’ custody.
The suspension, according to the authorities, will remain in force pending the conclusion of investigations by an independent committee constituted to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The affected personnel include officers responsible for station security, arrest and investigation, intelligence, legal duties, as well as day and night guard duties.
Those suspended are:

The development comes amid heightened public concern over the deaths recorded at an NSCDC facility in Niger State.
The independent investigation is expected to examine the events leading to the deaths, the circumstances surrounding the detention of the victims and the actions or omissions of personnel on duty.
Authorities have stressed that the suspension is pending the outcome of the investigation and does not, by itself, establish culpability against any of the officers.
The committee’s findings are expected to guide further administrative or legal action where necessary.
