North-Eastern University, Gombe, has approved an immediate salary increase of between 40 and 65 per cent for all categories of staff, effective from September 2026.
The Pro-Chancellor and Founder of the University, Dr. Sani Jauro, announced this during an event marking the successful completion of the institution’s fourth academic session and the commencement of its fifth session.
Dr. Jauro said the latest salary review was the third major salary intervention by the university within three years.
He recalled that salaries were increased by up to 35 per cent in October 2023 following the removal of fuel subsidy, while another 20 per cent increase was approved in 2024 after the university recorded outstanding results in the National Universities Commission, NUC, accreditation exercise.
According to him, all programmes presented by the university during the 2024 NUC accreditation exercise received full accreditation, with the institution recording an aggregate score of 91.4 per cent.
He said the latest salary increase was aimed at recognising staff commitment, rewarding excellence, attracting and retaining qualified personnel, and strengthening research and innovation.
Dr. Jauro also disclosed that the university’s Architecture programme had secured full accreditation from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, ARCON, describing North-Eastern University as the only university in the North-East currently holding full ARCON accreditation.
The Founder further announced a 50 per cent Founder’s Scholarship for students admitted into six selected programmes: Petroleum Chemistry, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Urban and Regional Planning.
He said the programmes were selected because of their relevance to emerging opportunities in petroleum, energy, industry and environmental management, particularly in view of developments around the Kolmani oil and gas area in Gombe and Bauchi States.
Dr. Jauro also announced a further 20 per cent salary increase for all categories of staff of Pen Resource Academy, Gombe, describing the institution as the university’s founding Nursery, Primary and Secondary School.
He said this would be the fourth salary increase for Pen Resource Academy staff within three years.
The university is also preparing for its Maiden Convocation Ceremony, tentatively scheduled for December 5, 2026, following the successful graduation of its pioneer students who completed the institution’s first full academic cycle.
Dr. Jauro said the university would continue to invest in staff welfare, modern infrastructure, teaching and research facilities, innovation and entrepreneurship.
He added that the institution remained committed to its goal of becoming one of the ten best universities in Nigeria within 10 to 15 years of its establishment.
