In a decisive counter-terrorism operation, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF Sector 3, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force CJTF, intercepted a suspected terrorist courier at the entrance of Gubio Local Government Area on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The operation prevented a potential Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack targeting MNJTF troops.
The suspect, 28-year-old Murktar Alhaji Chari, confessed to transporting materials to Damasak town, Mobbar Local Government Area, for an imminent attack. The intercepted items included four empty 12kg cylinders, one 6kg cylinder, two carburetor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose—key components for IED fabrication.
According to intelligence, the attack was a planned retaliation by the terrorist group following recent MNJTF operations that resulted in significant losses, including the elimination of fighters and the seizure of weapons.
The MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Ali, lauded the vigilance and professionalism of the troops and CJTF, reaffirming the Task Force’s commitment to neutralizing terrorism and ensuring regional security. The suspect remains in custody, aiding ongoing investigations.
This operation underscores the MNJTF’s resolve to dismantle terror networks and safeguard communities across the region.
