In a major political recalibration, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan has stepped down from the Yobe governorship race after what he described as “deep reflection and wide consultations” with his supporters.
Lawan made his decision known during a visit to party stalwart Ibrahim Geidam, widely regarded as a leading figure among All Progressives Congress stakeholders in Yobe State.
Sources say the meeting was strategic, with Lawan formally notifying Geidam of his voluntary withdrawal from the gubernatorial contest, a move seen as aimed at preserving party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a reassuring response, Geidam is said to have pledged the full backing of the APC structure for Lawan to return to the Senate and contest the Yobe North Senatorial District seat—an office he previously held for years.
