Maiduguri — In a bold move to position students for the rapidly expanding digital economy, Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Maiduguri, has entered into a strategic partnership with Maxzeeton Technology to establish the KIU Developers Community, a technology-driven initiative designed to equip undergraduates with practical skills in software development, artificial intelligence, data science and robotics.
The programme, which will run for an initial 12 months, is expected to transform the university into a leading innovation hub in Northeast Nigeria by providing students with industry-focused training beyond the traditional classroom.
Under the agreement, KIU will fund and coordinate the programme by providing facilities, internet access, learning materials, publicity and administrative support, while Maxzeeton Technology will deliver the technical backbone of the initiative free of charge through curriculum development, expert facilitators, mentorship and programme coordination.
As part of the collaboration, students will participate in coding boot camps, software engineering workshops, hackathons, innovation challenges and AI training sessions designed to produce practical solutions to real-world problems.
One of the partnership’s most ambitious goals is the development of Nigeria’s first indigenous humanoid robot alongside an agricultural drone, projects expected to showcase local technological innovation and research capacity.
The KIU Developers Community will operate as a student-led innovation platform with leadership positions including Programme Coordinator, Technical Lead, AI and Data Lead, and Student Head to encourage peer learning and innovation.
Implementation will be carried out in phases, beginning with community formation and student recruitment before moving into intensive technical training and, ultimately, innovation projects, prototype development, competitions and a grand demonstration day.
University officials said the initiative reflects KIU’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with practical, industry-relevant skills capable of competing in the global digital economy.
They expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, improve graduate employability, promote student-led innovation and elevate the institution’s profile as a centre for technological excellence.
Progress of the programme will be assessed through attendance records, technical evaluations, project reviews, training reports and quarterly performance meetings, with provisions for extending the partnership beyond its initial term upon mutual agreement.
