Katsina State has witnessed a remarkable turnaround in its security situation, with an eight-month stretch reportedly passing without a single kidnapping incident since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office, Minister of Housing, Engr. Murtala Rabe Darma, has said.
Darma, while highlighting the security achievements recorded under the Tinubu administration, recalled the grim situation before the President came into office.
According to him, Katsina was previously battling a wave of violent attacks, with as many as nine people reportedly killed and 15 others abducted every day.
He, however, said the situation changed significantly under the current administration, resulting in an unprecedented period of relative peace in the state.
«“Before Tinubu came into office, nine people were reportedly killed and 15 people kidnapped every day in Katsina State. But after his administration came into power, there was an eight-month period during which not a single person was kidnapped,” Darma said.»
The minister attributed the improvement to the security measures and interventions introduced by the Tinubu administration, stressing that the figures demonstrated the impact of sustained efforts to tackle insecurity.
His remarks are likely to fuel fresh discussions about the Federal Government’s security strategy, particularly in parts of the North-West that have faced years of banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
For residents who endured repeated attacks and abductions, the reported eight-month period without kidnapping represents a significant shift from the troubled security environment of the past.
Darma said the progress should be seen as part of the broader efforts by the government and security agencies to restore confidence, protect communities and create an environment conducive to economic development.
He urged Nigerians to recognise the gains made in the fight against insecurity while continuing to support efforts aimed at consolidating peace across the country.
