KATSINA — The Katsina State Police Command has uncovered an alleged diversion of therapeutic food meant for malnourished children, arresting a man found with 1,500 sachets of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) popularly known as Yar Kwamaso.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Aliyu, was arrested by police surveillance operatives attached to the Batagarawa Division on August 26, 2026, at about 7:40 p.m., following credible intelligence.
Police said Aliyu was intercepted while allegedly in possession of three sacks containing the therapeutic food, which is provided free of charge at public healthcare facilities for the treatment of malnourished children.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told investigators that he obtained the products from Zaharaddini Musa, said to be a clinic staff member who is currently at large.
The development has triggered further investigation as the police intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspect and establish the full extent of the alleged diversion.
Authorities warned that RUTF is not a commercial commodity, stressing that the specialised nutritional product is exclusively meant for vulnerable children battling malnutrition.
The Command cautioned individuals involved in the unauthorised possession, sale, purchase or diversion of the products that they would face arrest and prosecution.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, ordered a thorough investigation into the case and directed that those found culpable be taken to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
The police also urged residents to report suspicious movements or attempts to divert government palliatives, medical supplies and other humanitarian materials.
The Command said it remains committed to protecting public health interventions and ensuring that vital supplies meant for vulnerable Nigerians reach their intended beneficiaries.
