Kano Polls: KANSIEC to conduct drugs test for LGC candidates

Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) would definitely test for drugs addict of the candidates of chairmanship and councillorship of all political parties presented for contesting election.

The State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC),to conduct elicits drugs test on Chairmen and Councillorship candidates contesting in forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission,Prof. Sani Lawal Malumfashi stated this during the official visit to the headquarters of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),in Kano on Tuesday.

Prof. Malumfashi who emphasised that definitely ,the Commission is sets to test the candidates contesting the chairman and Councillorship positions on drugs.

While seeking the support and cooperation of the NDLEA in the conduct of the drugs test on political parties candidates and submit the results to commission to ascern whether they are eligible to contest or not based on outcome of test

He maintained that the present electoral commission in the state is committed to do all it can to see drugs addict persons didn’t get the executive power in local government being grassroot authority closed to the to society.

Malumfashi added that drugs users in leadership of local government will worsen the situation of drugs abuse in the state and can even bankrupt the local government treasury in promoting and increases the drugs abuse and related offences.

The Chairman also seeks the agency’s Commandant support in ensuring security during and after the elections noted that being the agency as part and percil of electioneering process.

In his response, the State Commander, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abubakar Idris Ahmad assured the commission’s chairman that his command is ready to provide all the necessary support and cooperation to conduct a hitch free election in the state .

Highlights of the event was the presentation of the elections guide lines and calendar to Commander by the Chairman of the commission while the NDLEA Commander also honoured Prof. Sani Lawal Malumfashi on behalf of his command.
