The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, describing the nation’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule as a remarkable achievement worthy of celebration.
In a statement issued on Friday, Gwamna said Nigeria’s democratic experience has strengthened civil governance, deepened democratic values, and positioned the country as Africa’s largest democracy.
The APC standard-bearer commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold and courageous leadership, noting that ongoing economic reforms are laying the foundation for a stronger and more sustainable future for Nigerians.
He urged citizens to remain committed to democratic principles and support government efforts aimed at economic recovery and improved national security.
According to him, national unity and fervent prayers are crucial in overcoming the country’s challenges and achieving lasting peace and prosperity.
Gwamna also paid glowing tribute to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, praising his administration for delivering visible dividends of democracy through massive infrastructural development, improved security, economic growth, and policies that have encouraged the expansion of small and medium-scale enterprises.
He said the strides recorded in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, youth empowerment, industrialisation, and infrastructure reflect the governor’s commitment to good governance and transformational leadership.
The APC governorship candidate further attributed Gombe State’s progress to the resilience of its people, the support of traditional and religious institutions, as well as the collaboration between the state and federal governments.
Calling for greater participation of women and youths in governance, Gwamna encouraged eligible citizens to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We must protect our democracy by rejecting violence, embracing peace, and actively participating in the democratic process for the collective progress of our state and nation,” he said.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain united and hopeful as the country continues its democratic journey toward greater development and stability.
