A Junior Secondary School Three (JSS3) student of Ummul-Qura Science Academy, Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Hayatuddeen Sadik Bello, is attracting attention with a series of homemade technological innovations aimed at finding solutions to everyday challenges confronting his community.
The young innovator displayed several of his inventions during the school’s speech, prize-giving and Qur’anic memorisation ceremony organised to honour students who distinguished themselves academically and in other areas of learning.
Hayatuddeen, whose interest in science and technology has continued to grow at an early age, told guests at the event that his ambition is to develop practical technologies capable of reducing the difficulties faced by ordinary people.
Among his long-term plans, he said, is the development of a system capable of producing energy from cow dung, as well as a fire-fighting vehicle that could be deployed to respond to emergencies.
According to the JSS3 student, the rising cost of petrol and cooking gas has further strengthened his determination to explore alternative and affordable sources of energy.
During the exhibition, Hayatuddeen presented a collection of models and devices which included a cooking stove designed around a water-and-petrol mixture, a jet-inspired vehicle, helicopter, gas-powered device, boat, grinding machine and other mechanical creations.
He also demonstrated some of the inventions to teachers, parents and other guests who attended the ceremony, explaining how the different models were designed to function.
Speaking on his ambition, Hayatuddeen said his ultimate objective was to use technology to make life easier for people around him.
The young student’s achievement also brought an emotional moment for his father, Abubakar Sadik Bello, who said he was overwhelmed with joy when he saw his son being recognised for his talent.
Abubakar said the recognition was particularly meaningful because Hayatuddeen had been able to demonstrate such creativity while still at the JSS3 level.
He recalled that the moment his son was announced and celebrated for his innovations was one he would never forget.
“I honestly didn’t even realise when tears of joy began to stream from my eyes. I felt such immense happiness, and I view this success not just as his alone, but as a victory for everyone,” he said.
The proud father attributed his son’s talent to what he described as a gift from Allah, expressing gratitude that the young student had discovered his passion for innovation at such an early stage of his education.
He also commended the management and teachers of Ummul-Qura Science Academy for their role in nurturing Hayatuddeen’s abilities through education, guidance and encouragement.
Abubakar said the support and training provided by the school had helped his son develop the confidence and skills required to turn his ideas into physical models.
The school’s management, while explaining the importance of the ceremony, said the annual event was designed to recognise and reward students who excel in their studies and other areas of development.
