Infrastructural Development: Charanchi LGA Outshines Others

The Katsina State Inspectorate Department has been impressed by the nature of three projects initiated by Charanchi Local Government Council.

This followed the Sunday 17/5/25 inspection visit by the Special Adviser of the Department Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana to the LGA.

The three projects initiated by the Chairman of the Local Council include transformation of the existing Charanchi Market to a modern one and the conversion of the abandoned Modern Market constructed since 2015 to Motorpark, as well as the proposed 7Klm by-pass road from the Northern axis of the town to Koda Junction.

The Special Adviser who was conducted round the three projects by the Chairman of the LGA was impressed, charging others to enulate such initiatives.

Hon. Lawal Safana said not only Charanchi has such bigger markets, citing example of Mai’adua, Jibia, Kafur, Bakori, Dandume and the Modern Markets constructed across the 34 LGAs 11 years ago but abandoned that need such initiatives.

The Special Adviser explained that the initiatives will transparently boost the economic and social activities of the area as well as improving the Internally Generated Revenue of the Local council.

He expressed optimism that local government councils in the state will continue to utilise their funds in line with their budgetary provisions for the development of their respective areas.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Council Hon. Ibrahim Sani who conducted the Special Adviser round the projects explained that the expansion of the Market project is expected to be completed by the end of the year 2026.

Hon. Ibrahim Sani the initiatives was to improve social and economic activities of people of the area and as an avenue to boosting IGR for the local council.

He appreciates the efforts of Governor Radda and the Special Adviser LG Inspectorate for transforming local government administration in the state.

The market project is a Public/Private Partnership initiative by the local government council and endorsed by the Inspectorate Department for rapid socioeconomic development of the area

The expansion work of the existing Charanchi Market comprised road network, water supply, Plaza, Hotel, Commercial Bank and other necessary facilities that will transform the market into a modern one.

Other members of the Inspection Team include Directors of Works and Inspection Engineer Umar Faruk Abdullahi and Alhaji Wali Umar.
