IGP Warns Against Misuse of Police Videos, Harassment of Officers

Borno State Government

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has called for the responsible use of police-related videos on social media and other platforms, cautioning against content that could incite hostility or encourage the harassment of officers.

The police chief stressed that while citizens have the right to document and report law enforcement activities, such actions must be carried out responsibly and within the bounds of the law.

He warned that the misuse of police-related footage, especially videos taken out of context or used to spread misinformation, could undermine public trust and jeopardize ongoing security operations.

The IGP also expressed concern over growing incidents of officers being harassed, ridiculed, or obstructed while carrying out their duties, urging the public to support law enforcement efforts rather than hinder them.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism and accountability, the IGP encouraged constructive engagement between citizens and the police to strengthen public safety and national security.
