The Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a fresh governorship primary election to produce the party’s candidate for the 2027 Gombe State governorship election.
Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed presided over the case, following a suit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki and Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh challenging the emergence of Professor Isa Ali Pantami as the PDP’s governorship candidate.
Garry,Mailantarki and Saleh challenged Pantami’s emergence after the party announced him as its sole candidate on June 26, 2026, arguing that the primary election was not conducted in accordance with the law.
Pantami, who was previously a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), joined the PDP after the APC endorsed Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus candidate.
He subsequently secured the PDP ticket through a voice affirmation during the party’s governorship primary held in May.
However, in its judgment delivered on Thursday, the court ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh governorship primary election in accordance with the party’s guidelines and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.
