The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned a legal practitioner, Benjamin Chukwuemeka Nwobodo, over an alleged N15.7 million land fraud before a Federal High Court in Enugu.
The case, now expanded to a 20-count charge, borders on forgery, possession of forged documents, and obtaining money under false pretence. Presiding judge F. O. Giwa-Ogunbanjo heard the amended charges after the prosecution presented multiple witnesses and documentary evidence.
Nwobodo, who had earlier pleaded not guilty during his initial arraignment in 2025, maintained the same stance when the fresh charges were read in court.
Prosecutors allege the defendant forged land documents worth millions of naira and used them to deceive victims in separate transactions. The court had previously issued a stern warning to the accused over alleged harassment and intimidation of witnesses, threatening to revoke his bail if misconduct persists.
With the prosecution closing its case, the matter has been adjourned to April 30, 2026, when the defendant is expected to open his defence.
The high-profile trial continues to draw attention as the anti-graft agency presses forward in its case.
