The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Gombe Zonal Directorate, has arraigned one Dalhatu Yahaya before the Gombe State High Court over alleged employment scam involving ₦3.5 million.
Yahaya was brought before Justice A.M. Yakubu of High Court 2, Gombe, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, on a two-count charge bordering on intent to defraud.
According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly collected ₦3.5 million from one Abubakar Shuaibu Yakubu with a false promise of securing employment for him at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), an act said to contravene Section 1(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same law.
Yahaya, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel J.D. Tortema urged the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant in a correctional facility, while defence counsel Yusuf A. Ali informed the court that a bail application had already been filed.
Justice Yakubu subsequently granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million with one surety in like sum. The court ordered that the surety must own a landed property worth ₦5 million, reside within Gombe State, and be of good standing in society.
The judge further directed that the surety must deposit original documents of the property, a valid identity card, and international passport for verification by the court registrar.
The case was adjourned to June 22, 2026, for commencement of trial, while the defendant was ordered to remain in custody of the Gombe Correctional Service pending fulfilment of his bail conditions.
