Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recorded another milestone on the global energy stage, exporting about 466,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in June, with the shipments valued at an estimated ₦757 billion.
The record-breaking exports reportedly surpassed jet fuel supplies from the United States and other major exporters to the European market during the period, underscoring the refinery’s growing influence in the international petroleum trade.
The development marks a significant boost for Africa’s largest refinery, which has continued to expand its footprint in global energy markets since commencing production, positioning Nigeria as an emerging supplier of high-quality refined petroleum products.
Industry observers say the refinery’s strong export performance reflects its increasing production capacity and competitiveness, particularly as European buyers seek reliable alternative sources of aviation fuel.
The latest achievement is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings, enhance the country’s standing in the global downstream oil sector and reinforce confidence in the multi-billion-dollar refinery’s ability to compete with long-established international refiners.
Analysts also believe the surge in exports could accelerate Nigeria’s transition from a major importer of refined petroleum products to a key exporter, creating new opportunities for economic growth, industrial development and regional energy security.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has, in recent months, continued to expand exports of refined products to international markets while supplying petroleum products domestically, a development widely seen as reshaping Nigeria’s oil and gas landscape.
