The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed Thursday, April 30, to deliver judgment in the high-stakes leadership battle rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The apex court announced that the verdict will be delivered by 2 p.m., bringing to a head a legal tussle that has threatened to destabilize the opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
A five-man panel led by Mohammed Garba had earlier reserved judgment after hearing final arguments from all parties. The case stems from an appeal filed by a faction led by former Senate President David Mark, challenging a previous Court of Appeal ruling that ordered parties to maintain the status quo.
The dispute was originally initiated by aggrieved members led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, who questioned the legitimacy of the Mark-led leadership. Other key parties in the suit include the ADC, its National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and former national chairman Ralph Nwosu.
With tensions running high, the Mark faction had earlier warned that any delay in judgment could jeopardize the party’s chances of participating in the 2027 general elections.
As the countdown begins, all eyes are now on the Supreme Court, whose ruling is expected to decisively determine the future leadership—and political survival—of the ADC.
