Court to Hear Suit Seeking Jonathan’s Disqualification from 2027 Presidential Race

Borno State Government

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed Friday, May 8, to hear a suit seeking to stop former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The case, filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, is asking the court to declare Jonathan constitutionally ineligible to seek the presidency again.

Justice Peter Lifu had earlier, on April 28, directed that hearing notices be issued and served on the defendants after they failed to file responses to the suit.

The legal challenge is expected to reignite debate over Jonathan’s eligibility to return to the ballot following his previous tenure as president.

The matter is scheduled to come up before the court on Friday for further proceedings.
