The Gombe State Police Command says it has deployed adequate personnel and operational assets across Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas ahead of the Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The Command said the deployment, carried out in collaboration with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), covers INEC offices, collation centres, polling units and other strategic locations across the affected areas.
In a statement signed by Police public relations officer Gombe state command DSP Buhari Abdullahi said that the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, said the security arrangements were designed to ensure a peaceful, credible and violence-free election before, during and after the exercise.
The Command announced a restriction of movement and closure of commercial activities across Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day, except for essential services.
It said personnel engaged in essential services would not be permitted to use sirens, unregistered vehicles or vehicles with covered number plates.
The Police further stated that only statutory security agencies operating under ICCES would be authorised to provide security coverage during the election, excluding state-owned security outfits, quasi-security organisations, private security guards and vigilante groups.
The Command warned members of the public against spreading fake news, political thuggery, brandishing weapons and possessing incriminating items at polling units.
Parents and guardians were also urged to caution their wards against allowing themselves to be used as political thugs.
The Police said anyone found engaging in activities capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the election would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
