KATSINA — Former First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, on Saturday declared that the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s greatest and most enduring legacy to Nigeria was his unwavering investment in education, describing the sector as the bedrock of national development.
Aisha Buhari made the remark during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Computer Science Complex at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, held on July 5, 2026.
Addressing dignitaries, academics, students and other guests at the event, the former First Lady said Buhari remained committed throughout his years in public service to policies and programmes that expanded educational opportunities and strengthened human capital development across the country.
According to her, while the late President would be remembered for several milestones recorded during his administration, his investment in education stands out as the legacy that will continue to shape generations of Nigerians.
She noted that Buhari firmly believed that no nation could attain sustainable growth without prioritising education, stressing that his administration consistently promoted initiatives aimed at improving access to quality learning and empowering young people with knowledge and skills.
Aisha Buhari commended the management of Al-Qalam University for embarking on the Computer Science Complex project, describing it as a timely investment that aligns with the growing demand for digital knowledge and technological innovation in the 21st century.
She urged governments, private organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting educational institutions through infrastructure development and research, saying such investments remain critical to the country’s future.
The former First Lady also encouraged students to embrace technology, innovation and academic excellence, reminding them that education remains the surest pathway to personal success and national prosperity.
The groundbreaking ceremony attracted government officials, traditional rulers, academics, religious leaders and members of the university community, who described the new Computer Science Complex as a significant milestone in Al-Qalam University’s quest to produce globally competitive graduates.
The project is expected to enhance teaching, research and innovation in computer science and related fields, further strengthening the university’s contribution to technological advancement and manpower development in Nigeria.
