Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has taken steps to challenge remarks allegedly made about him by former Chief of Army Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), during a television appearance.
El-Rufai, through his legal representatives, has issued a formal letter of claim to Musa, demanding the withdrawal of the alleged defamatory statements, a public apology and other remedies.
The letter reportedly follows comments attributed to the retired general during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, which El-Rufai’s lawyers contend were damaging to their client’s reputation.
Among the demands contained in the legal notice is an immediate and unequivocal retraction of the statements in question, alongside an apology to the former governor.
El-Rufai’s legal team has also demanded the preservation of all relevant evidence connected to the broadcast, including recordings, transcripts and other materials that may be required should the matter proceed further.
The former governor, who served as Kaduna State governor from 2015 to 2023, has yet to indicate publicly whether he intends to pursue the matter in court if the demands are not met within the stipulated period.
The development adds a fresh legal dimension to the exchange involving two prominent figures, with attention now focused on whether the disputed remarks will be withdrawn or whether the matter will escalate into a full-blown legal battle.
Further details of the allegations and the specific remedies sought are expected to emerge as the parties respond to the legal notice.
