Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested nine suspected militia members linked to targeted killings in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, in a decisive operation amid rising violence in the region.
Security sources said the suspects were intercepted around 1:35 a.m. on April 18 following intelligence on suspicious movements near Ganawuri and the Danwal axis.
The troops reportedly found blood stains on the suspects, heightening suspicion of recent involvement in violent attacks.
Items recovered include motorcycles, a pistol, a submachine gun, a locally made revolver rifle, ammunition, and other weapons.
The arrests come as communities across Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu continue to grapple with recurring clashes and reprisal attacks, deepening security concerns in the state.
Sources revealed that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting investigations into a series of recent attacks that have fueled tensions across the flashpoints.
In recent days, troops have intensified operations—rescuing victims, recovering rustled cattle, foiling attacks, and engaging armed groups in gun battles—in a sustained effort to restore calm.
Security analysts say the latest arrests could mark a turning point in efforts to dismantle local armed networks and break the cycle of violence in Plateau communities.
