Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in a deadly ambush along the Tsamiya–Illo road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims were identified as DCRMA Umar Aliyu, SRMA Ezra Manu Gona, and RMA I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir, who were reportedly on official duty when they came under sudden attack.
According to local sources, the officers were ambushed by armed men riding on motorcycles, forcing them to attempt an escape into nearby bushes. However, the attackers reportedly pursued them and overpowered them before they could reach safety.
Eyewitness accounts said the assailants, numbering about 20, fled back into the bush shortly after the attack, leaving the officers dead at the scene.
Residents lamented that the latest killing marks the fifth recorded attack on security personnel in the area, despite repeated deployment of operatives to secure the axis.
It was further gathered that over 10 personnel of Customs, Immigration, and Police formations have been killed in similar attacks along the Tsamiya–Maje corridor from last year to date, underscoring the worsening security situation in the region.
As of press time, there was no official reaction from the FRSC command in Kebbi State, while attempts to reach the agency’s Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful.
Security authorities are yet to confirm any arrests, even as fear continues to grip communities along the troubled highway.
