KEBBI — Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has moved to calm tension in communities affected by recent bandit attacks in Bagudo Local Government Area, assuring residents that his administration will not allow insecurity to take root in the state.
Governor Idris gave the assurance on Sunday during a visit to Tsamiya, a border community in Bagudo, where he met with residents and community leaders following the recent security incidents that have unsettled parts of the local government.
The governor, who expressed sadness over the attacks, described the incidents as disturbing and unacceptable, stressing that the government would take every necessary step to protect residents and their property.
He said the security of citizens remained one of the major priorities of his administration, adding that the government had already taken proactive measures to confront emerging security threats and prevent further attacks.
Idris appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist authorities in tracking criminal elements operating in the area.
He particularly condemned attempts by criminals to disrupt the longstanding peace enjoyed by communities in Bagudo, noting that violence was alien to the people of the area.
According to him, Bagudo has a long history of peaceful coexistence, communal harmony and cooperation among its residents, and his administration would do everything within its power to preserve that tradition.
The governor assured the affected communities that they would not be abandoned in the face of the security challenges, saying government would continue to work with security agencies and local stakeholders to restore confidence and strengthen security across the affected areas.
He also commiserated with residents and community leaders over the losses and difficulties caused by the attacks, urging them to remain united and vigilant.
Earlier, the member representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bello Abubakar Kaoje, commended Governor Idris for personally visiting the affected communities.
Kaoje described the governor’s presence as a strong demonstration of leadership and concern at a critical moment, saying the people of Bagudo were encouraged by the visit.
The Chairman of Bagudo Local Government Area, Aliyu Sambo Zagga, also expressed appreciation to the governor for coming to the communities to sympathise with residents.
Zagga said the visit had sent a clear message that the state government was concerned about the security and welfare of people living in the affected communities.
The visit comes amid renewed concerns over security in some parts of Bagudo, particularly communities located close to the state’s borders.
For residents, however, the governor’s visit offered more than sympathy. It was a reassurance that the government was paying attention to their concerns and was prepared to intensify efforts to protect lives, property and livelihoods.
Governor Idris reiterated that Kebbi would not surrender its communities to criminals, maintaining that his administration would continue to deploy every available resource and collaborate with security agencies to ensure that peace and stability are restored and sustained across the state.
