Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised four suspected bandit commanders during a swift counter-offensive along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Katsina State, in what security officials describe as a major breakthrough against criminal networks in the region.
The encounter reportedly occurred at about 11:40 a.m. on Friday when soldiers on routine patrol were ambushed by armed assailants. The troops, however, quickly regrouped and overpowered the attackers in a fierce gun duel, killing all four suspects without suffering any casualties.
Security sources confirmed that the operation led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and valuables, including one AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two motorcycles, several mobile phones, and ₦153,400 in cash.
Of particular interest to investigators are some of the recovered Android phones, which allegedly contain images of the suspects dressed in military uniforms. The devices have since been forwarded for forensic analysis as part of ongoing intelligence efforts.
Preliminary identification of the neutralised suspects lists them as Bishir Holami, Jamilu Baki, Ibrahim Doro, and Abdurraman Maje.
Intelligence reports link the group to a series of violent attacks across communities in Gobirawa, Raddawa, Kuki, and other areas within Dutsinma and Matazu Local Government Areas. The suspects are also believed to be part of a wider criminal network allegedly led by one Muhammadu Fulani, with operational footprints across Matazu, Musawa, Charanchi, and Kankia axis.
Security officials say the successful operation represents a significant blow to the bandit infrastructure in Katsina State, coming amid intensified military offensives aimed at dismantling armed groups and restoring peace to rural communities.
A senior security source described the development as “a clear signal that troops are tightening the noose on criminal elements,” while urging residents to continue supporting ongoing operations with timely and credible intelligence.
Authorities maintain that sustained collaboration between communities and security agencies remains critical to consolidating recent gains and preventing further attacks across affected areas.
