The office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed reports claiming he assured senators who lost in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries that their senatorial tickets would be restored.
In a clarification issued by his media adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that he neither made nor authorized any such promise.
According to the statement, Akpabio merely informed his colleagues that the APC leadership was working to address concerns arising from the party’s primaries and that the final list of candidates would be released in accordance with established party procedures.
The Senate President reaffirmed his commitment to party discipline, emphasizing that he would not interfere in the APC’s internal processes or candidate selection mechanisms.
The statement also clarified Akpabio’s position on calls for a Senate investigation into recent security challenges facing the country. While acknowledging that legislative oversight remains a constitutional responsibility, he maintained that the current security situation requires caution.
Akpabio reportedly argued that a public probe into military operations at this time could undermine troop morale as security forces continue to battle terrorism, banditry and other criminal threats across the country.
Instead, he advocated discreet engagement with security agencies through closed-door sessions to obtain necessary briefings without compromising ongoing operations.
The Senate President’s office urged media organizations to verify information before publication, warning against reports capable of creating unnecessary confusion over sensitive political and security matters.
