ADC State Secretary Quits, Joins APC to Back Gwamna’s Governorship Bid

Borno State Government

The governorship ambition of Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna received a major boost on Sunday as the Gombe State Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Ahmed Gana, resigned from the party and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr. Gana, a former commissioner and prominent technocrat, announced his departure from the ADC, declaring his support for the APC governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Explaining his decision, Gana said Dr. Gwamna possesses the competence, leadership qualities, and vision required to move Gombe State to greater heights and sustain the development strides of the current administration.

He described Gwamna as the most qualified candidate for the state’s top job, citing his understanding of governance, commitment to the welfare of the people, and blueprint for sustainable development.

According to him, the overriding interest of Gombe residents informed his decision to set aside partisan considerations and join forces with the APC candidate.

“Dr. Jamil Gwamna has all it takes to lead Gombe State and continue from where Governor Inuwa Yahaya will stop. He is the right man for the job, and that is why I have decided to join the APC and work for the realization of his vision,” Gana said.

The former ADC chieftain’s defection is being viewed by political observers as a significant addition to Gwamna’s growing support base as preparations for the governorship race gather momentum.

Reacting to the development, Gwamna welcomed Gana into the APC fold, describing the move as a strong endorsement of his agenda for a more prosperous and inclusive Gombe State.

He praised the former ADC secretary for what he called his courage and foresight, noting that his experience in public service would strengthen the campaign and contribute to the party’s vision of good governance.

Gwamna also reaffirmed that the APC remains open to individuals willing to contribute to the development of the state, urging more stakeholders to join the movement aimed at advancing progress and prosperity in Gombe.

The latest political realignment comes amid growing political activities in Gombe State as parties and aspirants position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
